Starting pitcher Brian Lorenz pitched two scoreless innings and hit a three-run homer to power host Lyons to a 4-1 victory over Sandburg Wednesday in Western Springs.
The home run by Lorenz, a liner over the left field fence off Will Keuper, came with two outs in the bottom of the third and after Ryan McMillin singled and Brian Trefil reached on an error.
‘‘He made me look bad my first at-bat with a curveball,” Lorenz said. ‘‘I figured he’d throw me another one first pitch. It felt good.”
Ed Viliunas (1-0) pitched four strong innings in relief for the No. 15 Lions, giving up an unearned run in the fourth. No. 4 Sandburg (1-1) managed just five hits.
‘‘I know they’re ranked pretty high, but I just went out there and threw strikes and let them hit and we made some good plays out there,” said Viliunas, who struck out five and walked none.
Trefil added an RBI double in the fifth for Lyons (3-0). Ryan Bachman went 3-for-3 for the Eagles.
