Thursday's summer baseball roundup

Brother Rice 8, Lincoln-Way East 4: Justin Biondo (1-0) allowed one run on four hits over five innings of relief, striking out five, as the Crusaders (4-0) won on the road in the South Suburban Summer League. Biondo also was 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and three RBI, while Brian Baldwin went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Herscher 5-6, Prairie Central 4-2: The Tigers (13-7-2) swept the Hawks as Mike Krygowski was 2-for-3 and Kenny Hertz singled home two runs in the opener. Jeff Bruer contributed an RBI triple for Herscher in the nightcap.

St. Patrick 2, Morton 1: Tim Varallo was 2-for-3 with an RBI, leading the Shamrocks past the Mustangs in the Near West Suburban Summer League. Devin Pickel and Armando Salgado combined to limit Morton to six hits, striking out five.
