Aric Dama scattered six hits and struck out five in a complete-game win as Wheaton North dropped Conant 4-2 in a Class 4A sectional semifinal at St. Charles North on Wednesday.
Dama (9-1) gave up two hits in the top of the first, but Conant (20-12) could get no runners across and Dama settle down after that.
‘‘We were a little shaky today and defense too,’’ Dama said. ‘‘The runs we got in the bottom of the first inning really helped to get us going. But we were a little shaky in the middle innings.’’
Jeff Schalk’s two-RBI double in the bottom of the first put Wheaton North up 2-0.
‘‘I was just looking for a fastball to hit,’’ Schalk said. ‘‘[Conant pitcher John DiMatteo] was a little shaky to start, but mostly we just got the hits when we needed them.’’
The Falcons (28-5) went up 3-0 in the second on Jack DeAno’s sacrifice fly that scored Sean Ford. Wade Cervenka added an RBI single in the fourth for Wheaton North.
Nate Rahn and Mitch Komstock each had an RBI for Conant.
