The longest postseason run in Dwight baseball history ended with an 11-1, five-inning loss to Eastland Monday in the Class 1A Benedictine University Supersectional.
Tony Dunlap hit the game’s first pitch for a home run and Eastland (25-5-1) went on to score five runs in the first inning and four in the second.
“They showed they were ready to hit the ball and if we were going to leave it right there for them to hit it hard somewhere, they would hit it,” Dwight assistant coach Chuck Trainor said.
“Our pitching has been strong for us all through this tournament, and it was just one of those games where the opposite team comes out and hits between the gaps.”
“Our record didn’t really show how much heart was really in this team. I’ve seen these kids all through their baseball-playing days and they love this game,” Trainor said. “It’s been a fantastic ride.”
The Trojans (15-20) scored an unearned run in the fifth. Travis Roeder reached on a two-base throwing error and scored on a single by Noah Trainor.
