Sean Kennedy had a game to remember, as the Warren left-hander hit two home runs and held Carmel to one run in leading the Blue Devils to an 11-1, six-inning rout at a Class 4A Carmel Regional semifinal game Friday in Mundelein.
Kennedy (4-3), who finished 3-for-4, also had an RBI double. On the mound, the Jacksonville recruit pitched five innings, yielding one run in the first inning and seven hits. He struck out five with no walks.
"We're just hitting the ball really well right now," said Kennedy. "We're playing our best baseball."
Kennedy wasn't the only player to have a big day at the plate for Warren (20-11). Senior shortstop Ryan Economos went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, four RBI and three runs scored. Economos' two-run double was the big blow in Warren's six-run fifth inning.
"Today was amazing," Economos said. "It was just hit after hit after hit. "It was a lot of fun."
Carmel (24-12) opened the game strong with four hits in the first inning, including two doubles, but managed only one run. Derek Jordan paced the Corsairs with a pair of doubles and three hits.
