For couple innings it was a game. But Whitney Young scored 15 runs in the bottom of the third inning en route to a 21-7 win over Lake View Thursday afternoon in Public League quarterfinal action at Hamlin Park.
“We’re an offensive team,” Whitney Young coach Chris Cassidy said. “We were aggressive on the bases and we’re hitting at the right time. Lake View can hit the fastball; they showed that today. The North Side schools have been beating each other up. We’ll see what the South Side has coming up.”
Lake View (20-13) took a 3-1 lead in the top of the second on RBI singles from Ramiro Clixto, William Martinez and Steve Martinez. In the bottom of the inning, Young leadoff man Matt Otero cracked a grand slam to center field.
Nick Frahm came on in relief of Jack Cinoman in the third for Young (21-3) with the bases loaded and struck out Justin Montalvo and Luis Colon to end the inning. Young pounded out 11 hits and 15 runs in the third.
