Rob Kennedy's bat and arm helped the Norwood Blues open the National Amateur Baseball Federation Senior (18-and-under) World Series on a high note Thursday.

Kennedy, of Northside Prep, had a two-out, two-run hit and also earned the save as the Blues beat the defending champion Houston Heat 3-2 in Jackson, Miss.

Andrew grad Nick Gross picked up the win for Norwood, allowing three hits and two runs over 6 1/3 innings. He fanned five.

Lincoln-Way East's Lloyd Burchett had two hits and scored a run for the Blues. Cary-Grove grad Donny Fitzgerald reached base three times and scored a run.
