Two Bloom basketball players were ordered held on $100,000 bond each Wednesday for allegedly mugging a man and woman at gunpoint near an ATM.
Rasjuan Thompson, 17, of Chicago Heights, and Brian Conway, 17, of Ford Heights, are each charged with one count of armed robbery for an attack near an ATM at 225 W. Joe Orr Road in Chicago Heights about 1:20 a.m. Monday, said Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin.
Conklin, citing court records, said the victims walked up to the ATM to make a deposit when they were approached by three men who demanded money. Thompson and a third suspect, unidentified and still at large, allegedly took the woman between two vehicles and started to remove her clothing, not believing her claim she had no money.
Conway showed a silver handgun and demanded the man provide his ATM card and PIN, taking the victim in a headlock and dragging him toward the ATM. When the man said he could not find his card, Conway fired one shot into the air, Conklin said.
When Thompson saw a squad car approaching, he warned the others and the three men ran off, court records show. Thompson and Conway were caught a short time later and identified in a lineup.
Conway is a 6-3 senior and has orally committed to Northern Iowa. He is the son of Brandon Cole, Bloom's all-time leading scorer, who played college basketball at DePaul University.
Thompson is also a 6-foot-3 senior. He transferred from TF South over the summer.
