Schoenecker named Loyola girls basketball coach
Jeremy Schoenecker, a former Benedictine University basketball player, was named Loyola's girls basketball coach on Thursday.
Schoenecker takes over for Tanya Johnson, who stepped down in August. Johnson led the Ramblers to state championships in 1997 and 1998 and has more than 500 wins as a coach.
“Jeremy is going to be a great fit for Loyola Academy and the girls basketball program," Loyola director of athletics Patrick Mahoney said in a statement. "He has a great work ethic, and he develops great relationships with the kids he coaches."
Schoenecker spent the last eight years at Ss. Faith, Hope & Charity School in Winnetka, where he doubled as a physical education teacher and athletic director.
Schoenecker, who was also named Loyola's associate athletic director, coached boys and girls basketball teams at Ss. Faith, Hope & Charity. Before that, he coached an Under-13 AAU girls basketball team and at Notre Dame High School for Boys in Niles. He also attended Notre Dame for high school.
A 2000 graduate of Benedictine, Schoenecker scored 1,369 points for the Eagles from 1995 to 1998. He graduated with a degree in education and also lettered in baseball.
