Bears' fast start sinks Schaumburg
Brett Harper scored two minutes into the game to put Lake Zurich ahead to stay en route to a 5-1 win over Schaumburg Tuesday in the Class 3A Barrington Supersectional.
Buczek serves up a win for Sandburg
Jenny Buczek's five aces helped Sandburg down Stagg 25-18, 25-18 Tuesday in the Class 4A Eisenhower Sectional semifinals. Mother McAuley beat Marist 25-23, 23-25, 25-14 in the other match.

As I reviewed the matchups in the nine second-round playoff football games involving area high schools, a thought occurred. Honestly, virtually every game can go either way.

And then there was one. That’s all that’s left of the Elgin area football contingent going into the second round of the state football playoffs after St. Edward, South Elgin, St. Charles East and Huntley all saw their seasons end last weekend.
